NON-COMPLIANT VEHICLES
Non-compliant vehicles that fail to meet the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) emission standards and are not exempt currently have to pay £12.50 a day to drive within the ULEZ zone.
Alternatively, London residents with an eligible vehicle can take advantage of the TfL ULEZ Scrappage Scheme to help replace their non-compliant vehicles.

SCRAPPAGE SCHEME
The Mayor of London has funded a £110m scrappage scheme, which provides financial assistance to help eligible Londoners scrap their non-compliant vehicles to prepare for the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) across all London boroughs from 29 August 2023.
London residents with an eligible vehicle can take advantage of the TfL ULEZ Scrappage scheme and potentially receive a grant worth £2,000*

- What is ULEZ?
The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and TFL are helping to improve the air quality for everyones health. The aim of the ULEZ is to improve air quality by reducing the number of vehicles in London that don't meet emissions standards.
- What does ULEZ stand for?
ULEZ stands for Ultra Low Emission Zone.
- What area does ULEZ cover?

- When does ULEZ start?
The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is expanding across all London boroughs from 29 August 2023 and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Who is affected by ULEZ?
Any one living in a London Borough will be affected by the new expansion area.
- What Vehicles are non ULEZ compliant?
Petrol cars that meet the ULEZ standards are generally those first registered with the DVLA after 2005, although cars that meet the standards have been available since 2001.
Diesel cars that meet the standards are generally those first registered with the DVLA after September 2015.
- What is the daily charge for non-compliant vehicles?
£12.50 per day is the daily charge for non compliant vehicles.
- What is the Government Scrappage Scheme?
The Mayor of London has funded a £110m scrappage scheme, which provides financial assistance to help eligible Londoners scrap their non-compliant vehicles to prepare for the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) across all London boroughs from 29 August 2023.
Following the success of our last scrappage scheme, which saw the removal of more than 15,000 polluting vehicles from London's roads, this scrappage scheme supports Londoners receiving Child Benefit, or certain low income or disability benefits, and eligible small businesses (under 50 employees), micro businesses (up to 10 employees), sole traders and charities with a registered address in London. Only eligible applicants with vehicles that do not meet the ULEZ emissions standards will qualify.
- How much money can I get from the government grant?
Eligible applicants can get up to £2,000 for scrapping a car or up to £1,000 for scrapping a motorcycle. For wheelchair accessible vehicles there is a payment of £5,000 to scrap or retrofit to the ULEZ standards.
- How do I scrap my car?
TMR offers an instant quick quote on our website, simply enter your vehicle registration number and postcode to receive the best price for your vehicle. If you are happy to go ahead, an email will be sent with the confirmation. You decide if you wish to deliver your vehicle to our Authorised Treatment Facility, or arrange for us to collect your vehicle.
Once the vehicle has entered our site, TMR notifies DVLA that your vehicle is being scrapped and we issue the Certificate of Destruction (COD). This paperwork is required to receive your government grant. We then make the payment for your vehicle by sameday BACS.
- What paperwork is needed to get the grant?
A Certificate of Destruction (COD) issued by us when your vehicle is scrapped. This certificate ensures your vehicle has been correctly scrapped through an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF). You will also need your application from the .GOV website to confirm you meet the scrappage scheme criteria.
- Can my car be collected?
Yes. TMR offers a fast, reliable vehicle collection service with our own fleet of recovery trucks.
- Do I also get a payment for my old car?
Yes, TMR pays for all vehicles whether or not it relates to the ULEZ scrappage scheme. The price you receive from our online vehicle quote will be paid via BACS.
